“ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING : 3rd JUNE 2008”
There will be no change in the management of the Clacton and
District Table Tennis League next year, with all the officers and
Committee members re-elected at the League’s Annual General Meeting.
Officers for the 2008/09 season will be: President, Sheila Howe;
Chairman, Brian Rowlen; Vice-Chairman, Peter White; Secretary,
Annabelle Rodriguez; Treasurer, Mike Hillier; Press and Records
Secretary, Tony Oswick; Tournament Officer, Pete White; Development
Officer, Ferdy Rodriguez; Coaching Officer, Felipe Rodriguez; Minutes
Secretary, Shirley Rowlen; Welfare Officer, Shirley Rowlen; Committee
members, Frank Burbidge, Mark Gale, Doug Green, Barry Howe, Paul
Wright; Internal Financial Examiner, John Hicks.
In his written report, Treasure Mike Hillier said that it had been
a satisfactory financial year and, as a result, he recommended no
change in the registration fees which will stay at £35.00 per team,
£3.00 for a senior player and £2.00 for a junior player.
Tournament Officer Peter White said that the Closed Championships
had been the best for many years and he thanked Paul Newbould Planning
and Building Design Services for their continued sponsorship of the
Championships.
However, he warned that, although Colbayns School was extremely
helpful and co-operative, there were continuing difficulties with the
booking agents for the school premises and these difficulties could
create problems for next season’s Championships.
A rule amendment, proposed by the Management Committee, regarding
the qualification for Divisional events in the Closed Championships
was not agreed.
During the evening, the Bob Phillips Trophy for services to the
League was awarded to Doug Green, a popular, loyal and hard-working
member of the League who has been instrumental in the development of
the Nomads Club.
And, in a surprise presentation, Brian Rowlen, who has been
associated with the League for over 55 years, a member of the
Management Committee for most of that time, and Chairman for the last
24 years, was made a Vice-President of the League.
Trophies for the 2007/08 season were presented by League President
Sheila Howe to Division One champions Brotherhood B, runners-up
Brotherhood A; Division Two champions Brotherhood C, runners-up Nomads
Jaguars; Division Three champions Windsor Roosters, runners-up Windsor
Ladybirds.
And, in a successful season in the Essex Inter-League, trophies
were presented to the three victorious Clacton teams who had won their
Divisions – Clacton A (Martin Edwards, David Hall, John Hobson, Phil
Smith) in Division Three of the Veterans Section; Clacton A (Dave
Binns, Colin Dearman, John Rice, John Stubbings) in Division Two of
the Super-Veterans Section; and Clacton B (Sam Buxton, James Denyer,
Lewis McKenny, Daniel Wright) in Division Two of the Junior Section.
The League will enter six Clacton teams in the Essex Inter-League
next year, run by Felipe Rodriguez (Mens), Ferdy Rodriguez (Juniors A
& B), Martin Edwards (Veterans A) and John Stubbings (Super-Veterans A
& B).
If the County is able to find sufficient opponents, Annabelle
Rodriguez will run a Ladies team, whilst a Veterans B team will be
entered if a volunteer Match Secretary comes forward.
* The League’s “Come and Try” sessions continue today (Thursday)
at the URC Hall, Carnarvon Road, Clacton-on- Sea at 7.30 pm. The
sessions are free and run each Thursday evening during June.
